Anyone who is familiar with the A.V. Club’s Undercover project knows that there have been some hits, but most of the covers have been huge misses. Still, the concept is fantastic and always keeps me coming back for more.

Only five cover songs have been chosen from this year’s excellent list so far, but one of those pairs the buzzworthy Sharon Van Etten with Austin indie darlings Shearwater. Together, they absolutely nail the Tom Petty-penned Stevie Nicks ’81 classic, “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around” (and I’m dangerously close to liking the cover better than the original, but that might just be the beer talking).

Also of note: count me in as part of the Van Etten fan club. Wow.
