One part of our mission at Poploser is to enlighten our readers about the music industry. It’s all hearts and unicorns once you’ve had success, but what about all of those struggling artists out there? What are they really facing? What options do they have for recording nowadays? How do they afford whiskey to drown their sorrows in?
School of Seven Bells released their third album this year, and it might be their best so far. With a full, lush sound, Ghostory is a must listen for the Poploser reader. The band consists of Benjamin Curtis (formerly of Secret Machines) and Alejandra Deheza (formerly of On!Air!Library!). We caught them live in DC opening for The Afghan Whigs in September and were impressed. Lucky for us, Alejandra agreed to answer some of our questions about the band.
Alec Ounsworth is the lead singer of the indie band Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. They shot to fame in 2005—without even having a record out—through Internet word-of-mouth. They have three albums released to date, 2005’s Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, 2007’s Some Loud Thunder, and 2011’s Hysterical. Aaron C. Lazar is the former lead singer of the New York-based band The Giraffes. Poploser could write a full description of what this band is like and how ridiculously loud and unruly their live shows are, but it’s probably sufficient to just say that Aaron suffered multiple heart attacks while fronting the band.
2012 is the 10th anniversary for The Walkmen, a band that has been putting out consistently good music that whole time. Ten years is a long time in the music business, and it seems they keep getting better with age.
